About Sue

The Who | Where | What | When

My experience gives me a unique view from over 2 decades in the salon industry and a total 4 decades in client facing roles (although I'm not that old, well not in my head anyway!)

I'm told I've been inspiring fellow salon owners and entrepreneurs in the industry for many years. I love focussing on client experience optimisation, personal and business development supported with heartfelt mentorship.

I'm an award-winning salon owner and professional who has been in the salon industry for over 20 years and have qualifications in nails, beauty and holistic therapies, as an educator, assessor and more. I grew my business from a small start at home and mobile to self employed renter in one of the nail industry's biggest names of the time. When that salon owner hung up her salon keys I went into a purpose built home cabin and then after building my clientele enough, onto award-winning salon and academy ownership. Since 2005 I've held a few other roles along the way in trade association management, national nail competition management, judging internationally and nationally for practical nail competitions and on to judging business categories within respected industry award schemes, including Scratch Stars & Professional Beauty. I've been a speaker at industry events on growing a successful business and career development. Between 2020 and 2022 I was co-founder and Deputy Chair of The Federation of Nail Professionals and over the last few years I was actively involved in software production for an industry education platform and enjoyed being the editor of a new industry publication, Salon Education Journal. Sadly there has had to be a temporary hiatus for SEJ, but there will be a new publication coming soon!

In 2021 I sold my successful and award winning salon, Gorgeous Nail & Beauty Emporium in Bexley, Kent freeing me up to relocate to rural Norfolk and to focus on new ventures that I've been developing alongside other projects.

Prior to the salon industry I worked as an Administration Manager, Executive Assistant and within the customer service world in a variety of roles in the NHS and corporate world and have also run my husband's building company with him for over 25 years.

Sue's loves...

If you want to know the Sue behind the profile pics here are a few snippets of what makes me smile

My favourite things include

  • My 2 Boston Terriers - Lemmy & Dodger. Lemmy's the grey one and Dodger's the black one. I walk them every day in the beautiful Thetford Forest and you'll often find me posting pics from my walks on my socials.
  • Music - Go to playlists include Ibiza anthems, Ibiza chill, old school soul & funk and soulful house and then anything but thrash metal, K-pop and middle of the road rock.
  • Cinema - I'm a paid up cinema member and love nothing more than a solo visit on a mid week afternoon with the cinema to myself.
  • Travel - I've been really lucky to have some amazing trips to the US with my hubbie and family and also have had many trips to Ibiza in recent years. Ibiza is the place I feel like I've arrived home - the chill, the music, the sunsets - amazing.
  • Most epic thing I've ever done - in 2023 I did a solo trip to Costa Rica to volunteer at a turtle project.  Check my blog for the details and if you would like to volunteer with this amazing project and help the Olive Ridley turtles you can find out more here.
  • At home - we relocated from the edge of London/Kent in 2022 to rural Norfolk. A major shock to the townie I've always been but love the peace and quiet. I live in a hamlet with not a lot going on with my hubbie, Trev, and my son, Myles, while my daughter, Ariana, lives in Glasgow.
